Fine dining doesn’t require Noritake plates and Lalique crystal. Nobody knows this better than Jane and Michael Stern, the husband and wife authors
of Road Food. (Now in its 10th edition! The couple is celebrating their 40th anniversary of stalking scrumptiousness. ) Famous amongst fans of the Splendid Table podcast, the duo travels America’s byways scouting home-style deliciousness. The Sterns’ reports to Splendid Table’s host (Lynne Rossetto Kasper) always conjure up images of comfort and classic Americana cuisine.

The King and Queen of diners, donut shops, mom-and-pop ice cream parlors also detail their scrumptious encounters on their Road Food blog. They advertise their site as the “Guide to Authentic Regional Eats.” The couple also challenges readers with a Summer Road Trip Quiz. Results are then turned into an itinerary customized to the quiz taker. I was directed to Oregon’s North Coast.

Jane and Michael Stern write, “If there were nothing to eat along Oregon's North Coast from Lincoln City to the Columbia River, we'd still come here for its natural beauty. No superlatives exist to describe the magnificence of the ocean, the shore, and the forests threaded by Highway 101 along the coast. In fact, there are many wonderful eateries along the way where travelers can savor the bounty of the ocean and the land.”

A trip to Oregon would be wonderful. At the moment, projects in LA take priority. So, I’ll simply share a few of the standout eateries in Road Food: An Eater’s Guide to More than 1000 of the Best Local Hot Spots & Hidden Gems Across America. The book is rife with tantalizing temptations. You’ll have to pick up Jane and Michael Stern’s guide to see which spots call to you.

Duffey Rolls

Denver, Colorado:

Denver, the Mile High City is famous for more than its majestic Rocky Mountains. Duffey Rolls in Denver, Colorado is host to luxurious cinnamon rolls and sticky buns. Definitely a place to stop before saddling up your horse and hitting the trails…or traffic!

山に囲まれているコロラド州デンバーにあるDuffey Rollsではシナモンロールといろいろな種類の甘いパンを販売しているそうです。

Baxter’s Fish & Chips

Hyannis, Massachusetts:

Reflecting the English tastes of America’s forefathers is Baxter’s Fish & Chips. The restaurant located on the Hyannis Harbor also serves up classic New England lobster rolls and fried clams. Besides the food, the Sterns praise this spot for the scenery.

El Indio

San Diego, California:

Perhaps Mexican food does not get much better than El Indio in San Diego. Fresh off the press warm tortillas may be irresistible. Fish tacos are served in glistening foil. Meals are apparently served cafeteria style.

メキシコ料理が好きな方はカリフォルニアのサンディエゴにあるEl Indioがおすすめです。レストランでトルティーヤを作っているので出来立てのトルティーヤが料理のベースになっています。

For ice cream lovers, those on the East Coast will want to sample seductive flavors such as burnt sugar at Christina’s Homemade Ice Cream in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Other ice cream Sirens of the store includes rose, honey lavender and cinnamon rice pudding.

If on the West Coast, head on over to Bi-Rite Creamery in San Francisco, California: Green tea coconut, blueberry buttermilk and cream cheese carrot cake are but a few of the fantastic ice cream flavors which await you.

東部に旅行される場合は、名門ハーバード大学の近所でにあるいろいろな種類の手作りアイスクリームが食べられるクリスティーナズがおすすめです。例えば, 焦げた砂糖、ローズの味、シナモンライスプディング、はちみつラベンダーの味があります。

西部に旅行される方には、サンフランシスコにある伝統的のあるBi-Rite Creamery　San Franciscoをお勧めします。ここでは西部のめずらしいアイスクリームが楽しめます。バルサミコ酢とイチゴ、ギリシャヨーグルト味、
