Great movies (even mediocre ones) have:

A Goal
-
Obstacles
-
And a Happy Ending
Goal:
Create irresistible Miso Salted Caramel Ice Cream Sandwiches for Sunday Supper.
BTW The theme for this week is Easy Football Food for Game Day.
(Little did I know how easy…)
Obstacles:
Despite the recipe promising an easy caramel sauce, the caramel for my ice cream never turned golden. It probably has something to do with the noticed-at-the-last-minute expired corn syrup...To the rescue: Store bought caramel sauce in the refrigerator. (Ahhh, the rewards of having a sweet tooth.)
Onto the lovely vanilla ice cream recipe…My plan was to drizzle the caramel (with 2 teaspoons of miso) into the vanilla ice cream as it churned. (Japanese miso is fundamentally fermented soybeans, salt and a few other ingredients.) The wispy clouds of cream underneath my handheld mixer whispered of wonders to come. Pouring my heavenly vanilla mixture into the ice cream maker, I realized that my machine was rebelling. The ice cream mixture was leaking out of the freezer bucket. My double-checking and reconfirming that all parts were securely in place was of no avail. My machine croaked on me.
But, Ninjas never give up…So after a day of teaching English and interviewing a chef in Japanese for Motto LA Magazine article, I slipped into a supermarket and purchased vanilla ice cream.
